Apart from the results of the February 23, poll, which he and his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, are contending before the Tribunal, Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the party is also seeking the disqualification of President Muhammadu Bbuhari on the grounds of qualification.
In the petition before the Tribunal, Atiku wants Buhari disqualified because he failed to satisfy the minimum qualification of a school certificate as required by the Constitution.
According to his lead counsel, Mr Livy Uzoukwu SAN, 21 Senior Advocates of Nigeria and 18 other lawyers,
in the petition:
“The election of the 2nd respondent is invalid by reason of corrupt practices.
“The election of the 2nd Respondent is invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).
“The 2nd respondent was at the time of the election not qualified to contest the said election.
“The 2nd respondent submitted to the 1st Respondent an affidavit containing false information of a fundamental nature in aid of his qualification for the said election.”
President Buhari’s educational qualification is still a subject of legal tussle since last year, particularly after the Nigerian office of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, issued him with what it called Certificate of Attestation.
