Ekere
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, Nsima Ekere may be disqualified from contesting the elections if a Federal High Court in Uyo okays the prayers of a group under the name Indigenous Contractors of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, who have accused him of embezzling N40 bn when he was the former Managing Director of the Commission .
In a suit with number FHC/UY/14/19 filed on January 28 at the court the group, according to Igebere TV, alleged that Ekere by his action is not fit to contest the election according “the provision of section 182 (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Ist Defendant (Nsima Ekere), who did not resign, withdrawn or retire from his employment as Managing Director of the NDDC but was sacked/ dismissed can be recognized by the 2nd Defendant (INEC) to contest as a governorship candidate of the 3rd defendant (APC) in the forth coming election slated for the 2nd of March 2019”.According to Igbere TV reports, the petitioners said over 50 dissent were made against Ekere for his removal based on the embezzlement and that it was the allegation that were upheld, leading to his sacking.
The broadcast station also quoted the state chapter of the party condemning those behind the petition, stating that Ekere resigned 40 days election in accordance with the relevant sections of the Constitution and electoral law.
When the case of his resignation and alleged dismissal came up few days ago, Ekere said he had resigned before President Buhari dissolved the Board of NDDC and appointed new, substantive heads. The court case is yet to be heard, meaning there is still more to follow.
