The crisis rocking in the Imo Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, took a turn for the worse on Thursday as the party expelled its governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma, from the party
He was accused of anti-party activity, for supporting the candidacy of a senatorial candidate of another party against its candidate and current governor of the state, Anayo Rochas Okorocha.
In what may be termed a comedy of errors, the National Executive Committee of the party had last week suspended Okorocha from the party for sponsoring his son in-law, Uche Nwosu on the platform of another party, Action Alliance, AA.
The crisis which has been snowballing since the decision of the party elders and stakeholder to resist attempts by Okorocha to foist his son in-law’s governorship candidacy on the party is yet to see the light of the day as the NEC seems helpless and perhaps looking forward to let the state go out of its radar in the March 2 poll.
As shown in the letters below, Uzodinma’s expulsion started from his Omuma Ward in Oru East Local government according to a letter signed by Chief Jerry Madubueze, ward Chairman before the state chapter supported it with a letter of its own, signed by the Chairman, Mr Daniel Nwafor and Secretary, Obioma Ireagwu and dated January 23, 2019.
“The Imo state working committee of our great party has examined the processes and procedures of the sanction on Senator Uzodinma by his Ward and as affirmed by the Local Government organ of the party in Oru East. Conclusively, the state working committee satisfied with the procedures and decision of Omuma ward, hereby affirm the expulsion order as well”, the statement read.
