Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday appeared before the the National Peace Committee convoked by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Fr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, and signed the peace accord for the 2019 general elections.
He had skipped the occasion yesterday, because, according to his media aide, Paul Ibe, speaking to AIT, ‘Abubakar did not get the invitation’. Weighing in, the party spokesman, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, had apologized to the Committee and pledged the party’s investigation of the ‘communication gap’.
After signing the agreement, Abubakar urged President Buhari to give assent to the 2018 Electoral Amendment Act, as that, in his estimation would be the real peace deal for Nigerians as far as pre and post-polls peace aspects were concerned.
He said:“I commend the President for accepting to sign the peace agreement. But let me also advise him to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill”.
