Following the deadlocked meeting between President Muhammad Buhari and Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC over the divisive tenure elongation issue of the national officers of the party, the National Chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun Tuesday inaugurated a technical committee to look afresh into the matter.
Buhari, had, at the party’s NEC meeting on March 28, declared illegal the February 27 extension of the officers positions. The issue threatened to bring down the roof of the house on party members as it divided members into for and against camps.
The Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) Technical Committee is to examine the President Muhammad Buhari’s position on the tenure of Party Executives vis-a-vis NEC’s resolution of February 27, 2018. Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong heads the committee, expected to turn in its work in four days
Other members of the 10-member Technical Committee are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Barr. Boss Mustapha; Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi; Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Governor of Ondo State, Olurotimi Akeredolu, SAN; Senator Ben Uwajumogu; Hon. Kabiru Ajana; Barr. Elisha Kurah, SAN; Barr. C.J.N. Dakas, SAN and the APC National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN (Member/Secretary).
Inaugurating the members on Tuesday at the party secretariat, Abuja, Oyegun said; “Therefore, your job is to bring these two together and advise us on the way we can implement our activities in the next few weeks and months in a way that is politically advantageous to our party, the APC, and at the same time with deference to the niceties of the law. We must observe the law and at the same time emphasise that we try to do things that will be advantageous to the party.
“We will furnish you with all the documents like the resolutions of NEC, the party’s constitution and the Nigerian constitution to help you do a good job. Getting answers from you is crucially time sensitive and depending on which way you advise, we may have to put in motion very serious activities in the party virtually within a week of getting the report and taking decision
