Five suspected armed robbers and kidnapers have been arrested by a team of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Abia state command of the Nigeria Police Force.

The team led by the SARS commander, Superintendent Obioguru Johnbull arrested the suspects during an early hour raid in their hideout in Urratta along Umuahia-Aba Expressway.

The suspects, whose area of operation spans from the state capital Umuahia through Owerrinta in Isiala Ngwa North local government area and the neighbouring communities confessed to the crime.

Ahead of the Yultide and New Year celebrations, the commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ene Okon assured the people of adequate security measures to protect their lives and property.

The police chief had advised criminals to either do away with crimes or leave the state in their own interest or be ready to face the consequences of their activities no matter whose ox will be gored.

Just last week the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) lauded the SARS and the commander for their gallantry and stream of successes in Aba, the commercial hub of the state.

The President-General (PG) of the COSEYL, Mr Goodluck Ibem stated this while speaking to newsmen in Umuahia against the background of the just concluded celebrations

He said even no less a person than the commissioner has acknowledged the successes and in appreciation for them wrote Johnbull three letters of commendation for gallantry within one year

Ibem further said that the criminals area of specialty are kidnapping, armed robbery, drug abuse, car snatching, thuggery, rape, cultism, obtaining by trick (419), and the Internet scam (Yahoo boys), among others.
