Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Johnson Onuigbo has vowed that the party will beat the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) again in the 2019 general.
Onuigbo stated this in an interview with our correspondent after a meeting between the State Working Committee and ward chairmen of the party from Abia North Senatorial District in Umuahia.
He said the defeat would be much easier now that the APGA had been weakened in the state after the 2015 general election and its members had defected to the PDP in their numbers.
“Abia is and will remain PDP and PDP is Abia. The All Progressives Congress (APC), though it is the ruling party in the country does not exist here except in the news,” he noted.
The chairman said the meeting was to prepare the minds of the chairmen for the 2019 general election and to emphasize the need for them to deliver their wards in all the elections.
According to him, this is the price they must pay to retain the party in the state and to also ensure defeat for the APC at the federal level “to end its reign of terror and hardship.”
He used the forum to re-emphasize the position of the party that there would be no imposition of candidates on the electorate for the election, saying the days of impunity were gone in the party.
“We stand by our position that there will be level playing field for aspirants in all the primaries, including the governorship to ensure the emergence of the best candidates,” Onuigbo added.
