President Buhari congratulates Lalong, Ganduje
The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governors Aminu Tambuwal, Abdullahi Ganduje, Simon Lalong and Bala Mohammed as validly elected governors of Sokoto, Kano, Bauchi and Plateau states respectively.
Tambuwal and his Bauchi counterpart were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP while the duo of Lalong, Ganduje are of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The APC governorship candidate Bauchi, Mohammed Abubakar, had challenged the return of Mohammed as the duly elected governor of the state, alleging electoral malpractices and irregularities.
Similarly in Sokoto, the APC and its governorship candidate, Ahmad Aliyu challenged the election of Tambuwal, while Senator Jerry Useni of the PDP in Plateau state took Lalong to court. In Kano it was PDP’s Abba Yusuf versus incumbent Ganduje.
In a unanimous ruling, the apex court one after the other dismissed the suits as for lacking in merit.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated governors Lalona and Ganduje over the apex court ruling. Buhari expressed joy that a strategic state like Kano in North west geo-political zone and Plateau in the North central remains under the control of the ruling party, according to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement.
Buhari said, “I am glad this tortuous journey has ended in favour of the party and our governors. APC won the states and has proved it in court. It would have been a major blow if strategically important states like Kano and Plateau are lost.’
