Making do without the tradition of fans cheering at the sides, the Olympic torch which was lit in Japan on Thursday a year later than expected will go round the world and return by July 23, 2021.
The Olympic torch relay will see athletes carry the flame across all of the country to arrive in Tokyo for the opening ceremony on 23 July.
The global pandemic forced the Games to be postponed from last year to this.
