NFF Yet To Clear Grey Areas With Coach Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF is yet to conclude plans to sign Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr since the areas of disagreement between both parties are still un resolved.

Though the Franco-German coach has agreed to a pay cut, the NFF is yet to get his full commitment to the directive to monitor the league as part of the recruitment drive for talented player for the national teams.

Only last week, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare had hinted that he had no preference for a national coach as long as the national team had a competent and sound coach capable of handling foreign based players whose exposure to mature football abroad require the services of a master tactician.

According to Dare; “What I want is a competent coach. The name does not matter. If you want to coach Nigerians, we need somebody who is sound. Our boys play in the first teams abroad. I don’t want players who are sounder than the coach.”

Coach Rohr who has been in the country since 2016 and has led Nigeria to two tournaments, the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where the Super Eagles crashed out in the group stage and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third has reportedly agreed to pay cut but the clause dealing with his vacation that makes him unavailable for regular monitoring of the league is still an area of disagreement with the NFF.

Though the minister had pledged not to interfere with NFF over employment of coaches, his statement last week sent tongues wagging that NFF is scouting for a better coach. But there are strong indications that Rohr would get the contract once the grey areas are cleared with the week, few week to the expiration of hi s contract on June 30
