Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has directed the immediate suspension of doctors and nurses of General Hospital in Ngala, a Local Government adjacent to the Cameroonian border.
The governor who paid a surprised visit to the hospital on Wednesday found all the medical staff of the hospital absent while volunteer staff of a Non-Government organisation were found attending to patients, most Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs who had besieged the hospital for treatment.
According to an Assistant to the Governor, Malam Isa Gusau, the governor was received by volunteers of the NGO during the visit and for the duration of his presence there none of the medical staff showed up, leaving the volunteers to do their job.
