Abia Security Fund Lunch: APGA Chieftain Tops Donours’ List

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief David Onuoha-Bourdex has announced a donation of N10m to the Abia Security Fund.

Onuoha-Bourdex stated this at the launch of Abia Security Fund and unveiling of Abia Security Card at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

Represented by Barrister Udoh Uduma, the 2015 APGA candidate for Abia North Senatorial District, he stressed the need for “security of lives and property in every nook and cranny of the state.”

He appealed to the administration to improve on its efforts at providing employments for the teaming youths and enabling business environment as means of curtailing crimes and criminal activities.

Calling for a stronger synergy between the security agencies in the state, the Ugoena of Abiriba and the chairman of Bourdex Group, commended the government for launching the fund.

Similarly, the Chairman of the occasion and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (COE) of Novena Majesty Group, Prince Sunny Aku, who donated N5m, said security is critical to the development of every society.

In his comments, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said the fund was expedient to his administration’s efforts at confronting security challenges, saying the launch could not had come at a better time than now.

The governor announced with happiness that based on the published 2016 crime data of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the state was reported as the second  safest state in the country.

Ikpeazu, who expressed gratitude to the security agencies in state and for the synergy existing among them, added that the fund would in no small measure assist in reducing crime rate in the state.

According to him, “We should all be grateful to the Almighty God for His protective shield over us as a people and also appreciate our brave and hardworking security agencies for their sacrifices.”

Other donours include the former governor, Senator Theodore Orji and his counterpart, Enyinnaya Abaraibe, who donated N1m each, and both First Bank Plc and UBA Plc which donated one security van apiece.

Earlier, in his address of welcome, the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the event, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai said it was a clarion call for all to contribute towards the security of the state.

Agwu Ukpai, who is also the deputy chief of staff to the governor, regretted the numerous security challenges facing the country, expressing the urgent need to confront them headlong.
