Gimenez celebrates with teammates after nodding in the decider
Uruguay’s Jose Gimenez 89th min header from a free kick outside the 18 yard box gave the south Americans the lone goal victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt in another thrilling encounter in a group A match played on Friday afternoon. With the win, Uruguay seats in the second position behind Russia which is topping the group on goals difference, having trounced S/Arabia 5-0 in the opening match yesterday.
The Egyptians who played impressively were however goal shy without their talisman, Mohammed Sallah who is nursing an arm injury. Gimenez’s goal was however late in coming as skilful striker Luis Suarez had missed four scoring chances, while Paris St Germain’s striker Edison Cavani’s 25-yard free kick hit the woodwork after another of his shot had been saved by Sharawi, the fantastic Egyptian goalkeeper.
