A 57th minute goal from substitute Marco Asensio gave visiting Real Madrid the winner in the first leg of their semi encounter with Bayern Munich at Arena Allianz today. Defender Rafinha, (real name Márcio Rafael Ferreira de Souza,) had carelessly given the ball away for Madrid Dani Carvajal to take charge and pass to Asensio who made a quick work of it.
Joshua Walter Kimmich had opened scoring for the home team in the 28th minutes from an impossible angle but Marcelo Vieira da Silva Jr cancelled it with an equaliser in the 44th minute. A goal from Cristiano Ronaldo was disallowed when it was found that he parried the ball with his hands. Man of the match, Bayern’s Frank Ribery was everywhere- speed, twist and turns but no goal.
Real look good to take this competition in the second leg and meet Liverpool or Roma depending on what happens on Thursday in Rome.
