UEFA: Man City, Bayern, Juve Romp Into Round of 16 As Spurs, PSG,Leverkusen Win

Son scores a brace for Spurs

 

The first goal for Spurs came in the 35TH min due to the threesome efforts of Harry Kane, whose shot hit the post before, Son Heung-Min who cleared the ball to put it in the 18 yard box and Lo Celso who fired the rebound into the goal. But VAR had to confirm it before it was allowed.

In the 58th min, Son repeated the feat with an assist from Ndombelel and Alli. And in the 86th , Son made a a brace for the visiting Spurs. Real made a mincemeat of visiting Galatasaray, who were so goal shy, you would think they were playing the beautiful game for the first time. Right from the first 4mins till the blast of the last whistle in the     90+2 min, Real dominated the game with such flare and ease, it was a miracle they did not made it more than the recorded goal. Playing the same 4-3-4 formation, goals from Rodrygo in the 5th min, through a Mercelo solo run from the left flank, another by the same Rodrygo in the 9th min with a header of, again a Mercelo assist, Skipper Ramos goal through a penalty in the 15th min, and Karim Benzema 46th min, all at first half, gave the host the game. And by the second half, they piled the pressure and Bezema made it five in the 82nd min, before Rydrygo came for his hat trick goal in the dot of time at 90+3 min.

According to Opta Joe, a critical sport commentator, Rodrygo at 18 years has become the first youngest player to score a hat trick in UEFA Champions league since 1995 when Raul performed a similar feat in a game with Ferensvarosi. The win puts them second after PSG with 7 points.

 

Atalanta vs Mancity, 1-1

Mancity started very well with a surprising burst of ferocious energy by the attacking effort of Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, who converted the combination with a deft touch for the opening goal in the 8th min.

City would have sealed the game in the 43rd minute penalty that Jesus missed. But the host quickly woke up by putting up a defensive and counter attacking style that contained the visitors. PSG vs Club Brugge, 1-0

A 22nd minute lead through Icardi goal was all the host had to show for their ball possession at 64 per cent to the visitors 36th and for the missed penalty by Mbaye Diagne, it would have been one all. Lokomotive vs Juventus, 1-2

But Douglas Costa, with an assist by Gonzalo Higuain right at the 90+3 mins sealed victory for the visiting Juve, leaving them comfortable at the top of Group C with 10 points. Juve has joined Mancity and Bayern to qualify for the round of 16.

 

Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid, 2-1

A 10- man Leverkusen defeated Atletico who certainly found it easy to salvage a goal in the 90+4 min after N Amri was red carded in the 84th min. First half goals from T Patey in the 47th min and an early second half goal by Volland in the 55th min would have sealed the game for the host. Yet the effort merely gave them three points from four matches leaving Atletico with seven.

 

Dinamo Zagreb vs Shaktar Donessk, 3-3

 

Bayern Munchen vs Olympiakos, 2-0.

With the win, Bayern tops Group B with 12 points and has qualified for the round of 16
