Plateau State Statistician-general, Mr Gongden Micah Sunday has expressed worries over poor funding of statistics and data collection that influence budgeting and greatly impact on the execution of programmes and projects to improve the lives of the common man.
Sunday urged government to give attention to statistics and data collection before implementing programmes that can influence positive development in the country.
He attributed this unfair state to the poor funding of statistician offices across the country which make for lack of data to plan for infrastructural improvement in rural and urban areas .
Disclosing this on Tuesday at his Tudun wada Dandaura office while in audience journalists in Jos, Mr Sunday said the delayed passage 2018 budget by the federal is greatly having negative impact in the farming season because farmers are yet to access to fertilizers because of late distribution owning to late budgeting.
According to him. “We are now in June but when you look at the plight of farmers many of them are yet to get fertilizer which will affect the harvest”.
He pointing out that the delay in the passing of budget has brought down slow development of infrastructure as Nigerian place priorities on the tradition of waiting for budget passage before embarking of programmes.
