Shittes Battle Police In Abuja

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as ‘Shiites’ have continued with their massive protest in Abuja, began on Tuesday, causing panic among commuters, motorists and workers who scampered for safety to avoid being caught in the commotion

Hundreds of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, on Tuesday, stormed the National Assembly and shot a police officer and a civil defence officer, while many spread into the streets to paint inflammatory statements on overhead bridges in the Federal Capital city, Abuja. Three cars were also torched and other vehicles damaged on Tuesday

Today, Thursday clash at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja attracted the Police, which fired gunshots and tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters. Five members of the group were arrested by the security operatives.

Unrelenting, the protesters later regrouped at another location to continue with their protest.

The protesters chanted slogans indicating that they were ready to die because of their religion. They are protesting the continued detention of their leader, Ibraheem Elezakzaky who has been held incommunicado by the Federal Government since the fall-out of the violent clash between the sect and the Nigerian Army in Kaduna in 2016.
