Sex for Grade: Unilag, Foursquare Church Suspend Lecturer/ Pastor

 

Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, a University of Lagos lecturer who was implicated in a BBC Africa Eye’s latest investigative documentary on sex for grades has been suspended by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, where he is also a pastor. The documentary video has gone viral. In it Dr Igbeneghu is exposed in the video by the BBC Africa where an undercover journalist Kiki Mordi, disguises as a 17- year old    admission seeker and allows the lecturer to engage her in sex demands.

In a letter signed by Rev Ikechukwu Ugbaja, National secretary, the Church said, in part, ..”as a holy and bible believing church, we do not condone such heinous and unscriptural act among our ministers. We totally dissociate ourselves from the purported conduct of Dr Igbeneghu and promise to take appropriate. action as soon as ongoing investigation is concluded.

“Meanwhile, the pastor in question has been asked to step down from all ministerial assignment”

Also the Unilag, University authority has suspended Dr. Igbeneghu for the same offence. Addressing the press on Monday, the vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the lecturer has been suspended indefinitely. He said a lanel had been set up to investigate the issue.

Dr Igbeneghu is a former sub-dean of the Faculty of Arts and a pastor of local Foursquare Gospel Church.
