Senator Shehu Sani whose name was reportedly submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday as senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress for Kaduna Central has resigned his membership of the party.
The reason? It turned out that the real name submitted by the party was Uba Sani, governor el-Rufai’s choice for the position.
Shehu Sani, the incumbent Sanator and human rights activist has had a running battle with Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He wrote the Chairman, APC, Ward 6, Tudun Wada North, Kaduna, to announce his resignation as a member of the party.
The resignation came as a surprise as it was reported that the APC Appeal Committee upheld his candidacy for his present senate seat, instead of Uba Sani, nominee of the governor, who won the primary held in the constituency.
Shehu Sani boycotted the direct primary.
Obviously, his resignation came with his realisation that his name was not forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, as expected.
On Friday, a post on the Twitter account of APC Kaduna, showed an acknowledgment from INEC about Uba Sani’s candidacy.
INEC paper acknowledging Uba Sani’s candidacy for Kaduna Central is shown above.
