Senator Accuse FG of ‘Looting’ Recovered Funds

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has taken a swipe at the Federal Government for spending recovered looted funds from the government’s treasury, saying such expenditure ought to have been approved by the National Assembly.

Ohuabunwa, representing Abia North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, stated this at a Town Hall Meeting and the Lunch of Change Begins With Me campaign at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.

He was reacting to a statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed at the occasion that the funds had been committed to infrastructure deficit and social investment  projects.

According to him, appropriating the funds without the approval of the National Assembly as well as the failure to inform Nigerians of the total amount and the projects they were earmarked for was undemocratic and amounted to “looting the looted funds”.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Primary Health and Communicable Diseases raised the alarm that the Umuahia-Ohafia-Arochukwu Federal Road was not in the 2017Appropriation Bill now before the Senate.

Other ministers, who spoke on burning national issues include, Okechukwu Enelama; Trade,Commerce and Investment, Audu Ogbe; Agriculture and Rural Development, Chris Ngige  Labour and Employment, and Bawa Buhari; Mines and Steel Development.

Welcoming the guests, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu expressed satisfaction for the choice of the state for the occasion, assuring the team of the government’s determination to partner the federal government in its campaign to revive the economy.
