Senate In Commotion As Suspended Makes Away With Mace

Suspended Senator Ovie Omon- Agege, representing Delta Central this morning stormed the National Assembly premises with suspected tugs and hoodlums and made straight for the mace inside the Senate Chambers and took it away.

Omon-Agege was suspended for 90 days recently for what the Senate plenary considered embarrassing comments he reportedly made on the passage of the Electoral Amendment Act , which changed the sequence of elections in 2019.

Thisage gathered there is commotion in the National Assembly premises as members are at their wits end on what to do to arrest the situation from degenerating into a fight. Senate President, Dr Abubakar Saraki is away abroad for a national assignement.

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who is presiding took matters in their stride and asked Senators to settle down for work, promising that the invaders would be punished.  The Sergeant-at-arms along with security operatives, are said to be working to retrieve the mace.
