Few hours after it cleared Senate President Bukola Saraki of any wrongdoing in the allegations that he dodged payment of custom duties on an imported bullet proof car, the upper chambers’ Chairman of Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition Committee which investigated the allegation, announced the suspension of Senator Ali Ndume, “for a failure to conduct proper investigations before making the allegations”
According to Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who chairs the Committee, the suspension is for six months and takes immediate effect
The car duty allegations related to reports by an online newspaper, Sahara Reporters, that the Senate failed to pay import duties of N74 million on a bulletproof car worth N298 million
The reports said the car belonged to Senate President Bukola Saraki. The paper also alleged that Senator Dino Melaye did not graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University as he claimed. But the VC of the institution, Professor Garba informed the Senate during investigations that Melaye graduated from the university with third class in Geography.
