Senate Ask Customs Boss, Ali To Resign

The Senate on Wednesday asked the Comptroller –General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali, retd, to resign his appointment with immediate effect.

This directive came on the heels of Ali’s refusal to appear before the upper chamber, courtesy of a court injunction and a letter written by the Minister of Justice and Attorney –General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

The federal lawmakers had earlier criticized Malami for writing the letter asking the Senators to suspend action pending the determination of the case before the court.

They said he lacked the powers to write such a letter, which constitute interference in the functions of the legislative arm of government.
