Abia State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon Chidi Nwosu has vowed that the party would evict the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the state in 2019.
Nwosu stated this in his acceptance speech after he emerged as the chairman of the party at the state congress in Umuahia, the state capital, saying the eviction would be through the ballot box.
“Our goal is to reposition the state. We shall use this platform to drive away all power grabbers that have held the people down since 19 years ago,” he further stated
The former acting chairman of the party noted that its task is to put a stop to all irregularities that are associated with elections in the state that give power to reluctant leaders.
“We will work hard to ensure that the people imbibe our message, that is the message of our character and our duty and our willingness to ensure that we deliver good governance,” he argued.
He added that with the congress over, the party had formally taken root in the state. “I am very very happy that the party has taken off on a very sound footing,” he said.
According to him, “We are set to deliver good governance to our people, and then, by our characters and conduct, our people will see the platform of the party as where leaders will emerge in 2019.”
The former member of the state House of Assembly, who expressed confidence that the party would win the election, commened the delegates for the orderly conduct of the congress.
Similarly, the Congress Committee Chairman, Obong Effiong Unah, described the congress as peaceful, assuring that grievances that may arise from it would be handled democratically.
