Power: Poor Supply to Jos, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe States Identified

The Managing Director /Chief Executive of Jos Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Modibo has identified the rampant illegal connection and vandalisation of power installation wires as responsible for low mega wattage of electricity distribution to Jos, capital of Plateau State, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe states.

Speaking at a one- day awareness campaign and sensitisation workshop with the stakeholders on the illegal connection of JEDCO equipment and rampant stealing of transformers,wires main to connect consumers, Modibo disclosed that the selling of Power Holden Company of Nigeria to the private individuals was to encourage the generation of income to the distribution company and cater for the unemployment problem

He stressed that the JEDCO is undergoing awareness campaign to educate the consumers of electricity distribution in the five states to improve the revenue base of the investors who put in their capital .

Modibo said it was untrue information being circulated on the social media over the alleged increase on the tariff, stating the purveyors of the information are misleading the general public and “our consumers but we are putting the record that the review was done recently in 2015.”

Addressing Journalists on Tuesday at the the company’s headquarters during his interactive session, Modibo lamented the challenges of the power sector which people take advantage of to speculate wrong information .

He said the JEDCO has no plan to increase its tariffs even though there are plans on ground to improve the the regulation which must be done with high level of consultation with the affected consumers because of the economic indices ravaging the average Nigerian.

He said: “It is natural that the cost will go up but due to the price of things in the Market our tariffs was just reviewed in 2015 which is still enforce ,we still receive invoice on the normal price.

”We are going to partner with government ,security agencies to effect arrest on those who are responsible for the problem of epilepti power supply to consumers. This is capable of creating disharmony or conflict ”

He noted that  JEDCO had issue out order to security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those defaulters while advising consumers that it would soon reward honest and faithful consumers who pay promptly to the JEDCO .

Modibo expressed the desire to see people who pay their taxes or bills do not suffer electricity disconnection but are rewarded as dedicated citizens.
