Stakeholders in the urban and planning sector in Plateau state have blamed the development pof slums in the city center of the insanitary habits of the citizens.
Speaking at the 2018 Palling Week and 30th Anniversary Dinner of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners organised by the state branch of the body at the State Polytechnic, Jos, they separately called for joint efforts to tackle the social menace
.The State governor, Simon Bako Lalong, who declared the event open restated his administration commitment towards developing the state in accordance with its master plan.
Lalong who was represented by the state Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planing, Bolus Bot, described members of the profession as effective planners, saying their activities has captured all the 5- pillar policy of his rescue administration.
Chairman of the occasion and chairman Shendam Local Government, Alex Miskoom Nantuam, in a remark, said the importance of planning cannot be over emphasized when viewed in the effect of rising challenges of slums and improper implementation of town planning and ethics on the state.
This development, he attributed to the relegation of town planners in the scheme of things. On his part, the Commissioner for lands survey and town planning, Festus Fuanter, said the major problem facing town planning is the rising wave of slums in the city centre, which he blames on the activities of citizens with insanitary habits.
