Party Rivalry: Gunmen Kill APC Youth Leader in Kogi.

Hell was let loose on Sunday in the varsity town of Anyigba in the Dekina Local government area of Kogi state when two rival group engaged themselves in a fierce gun duel, killing one Ismaila Yakubu Agba, a youth leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the process.

Although the remote cause behind the exchange of gun fire which led to the death of the youth leader is yet to be established, it was gathered that the unidentified trigger happy gun men started shooting around 10 am, bringing the town’s activities to a stand still, as confusion took over the varsity town for hours.

It was learnt that the late APC youth leader, Agba who is the head of the east district cashew produce of the revenue drive department of the state government and chairman of Anyigba -Lagos loading point in the town, met his untimely death during exchange of gun fire at Agwudoko areas of the city.

A reliable source stated that the militant group, suspected to be from rival leading political parties in the town, stormed the enclave of the other party over a yet to disclosed reasons which turned out to be a free for all,  leading to many receiving bullet wounds of various degree.

According to some residents of the town, the reason behind the latest exchange of gun -fire between the suspected rival Political parties may not be unconnected with the November 2 election where both side are said to be engaged in a dress rehearsal in the battle of supremacy that lies ahead.

“We were indoors for hours to avoid incident of stray bullets. Though the police command moved in when they got winds of the incident, at a point, we did’t even know who was in charge, as the guns continue to boom unabated”, a resident expressed.

However, the Police Public Relation officer, (PPRO), Williams Aya confirmed the incident, saying that only one person(Ismaila Yakubu Agba) died, and one Alhassan Idoko  received injury from the said attack.

The PPRO added that it was not a political attack but a case of a culpable homicide perpetrated by unidentified gun-men which the command is already on their trail.

He said the police authority were drafted to the scene, shortly after the brother of the slain person reported the matter to the police in the town, adding that normalcy has returned to the vicinity, as police waded in.
