The National President of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Khalid has commended the women wing of the union in the state for mobilizing women at the grassroots to stand up against rape, violence and discrimination in work places.
The National President stated this during a 2-Day sensitization program held at Zawan, Jos South Local Government Council of Plateau state.
Comrade Khalid who was represented by Comrade Shamdung Ayuba, said the aim of mobilizing women across the 17 LGs in the state was noble and timely, considering the “danger of discrimination, violence and traumatic experiences women often go through at the domestic front and work places for which many are dying in silence”
The president’s commendation, which was made during the 2020 International Women Day celebration enjoined women to report any act of discrimination meted on them to appropriate authorities as a first step to seeking redress.
Khalid expressed satisfaction with the turn out of participants from all the local governments in the state and described it as as a model to be emulated by other women working in the local government considering their proximity to the grassroots.
Speaking on the theme “l am Generation Equality, Realizing Women’s Rights,” Mrs Comfort Bulus called on governments and private organisations to provide funds for women in order to promote their entrepreneurship and financial independence.
