The National Women Leader of JondeJam ,a Fulani Cultural Association of Nigeria ,Hajiya Aminatu Sai’du Naseh has lamented the rising causes of insecurity ,banditry linking herders in the country by attributing the problems to illiteracy and poverty been fuelled in the by tribal, religious leaders .
Speaking in an interview with some journalists at Sharna Hotel in Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau state at the weekend ,Mrs Naseh condemned the raging banditry and herder/farmers conflict in the country and called on the appropriate authority to ‘fish out the bad eggs in society’.
She cautioned Fulani herders to turned away from committing crimes ,kidnapping, attacking “as a business and engage themselves in meaningful entrepreneurship towards providing genuine means of livlihood”.
She called on all the leadership of Fulani association to assembled themselves into a community where government can identify them and provide them with social amenities that they can enjoy together because the present increase in childbirth and population growth has continued to pose a serious threat to their existence.
She drummed support for RUGA policy, which according to her, is the only solution to resolve the lingering clashes between farmers /herders in the country, adding, “our milk is more precious that the oils boom because up till today, 10 litre jerry can of milk cost N250 while motor spirit fuel from petroleum is still N170 per a liter .
Hajiya Naseh frowned at the increasing rate of uncontrolled army of youths in Nigeria who are yearning for basic amenities to encourage them to compete favourably with other across the diverse country and appealed to his kinsmen and women to acquire western education and eschewing violence that stand for poverty.
She said; “the Fulani should stop roaming about in bushes. This is no more attractive in our 21 century because they would be vulnerable to the threat of insecurity. They should rather group themselves or settle down at a particular place for government to consider them and help them with provision of basic amenities .
“My hearts bleed seeing a few with one cow with the responsibility of 20 children to carter for their daily needs and one of the major problems of the Fulani is abject poverty with poor healthy lifestyle.
“The women and children are more vulnerable victims of political onslaught during any attacks and pregnant women can’t access medical care and they remain helpless as parents.”
She advised Fulani women’s to always see education as important, “so we should employ politics at all level to penetrate the rural or bush Fulani by tasking their other women to advice their youths on the need to promote unity and oneness .
Another woman leader, Hajiya Mariam Yerima Jajere from Yobe state expressed displeasure with the way and manner the Fulani are linked to all the criminal elements that commit crime as if there are no i responsible ones among them.
She charged security personnel to always investigate and arrest the culprits instantly rather than allowing a situation that leads to blacklisting herders, whereas all the tribes in the country are involved in this act of killings ,banditry and unholy behaviour .
Mrs Yerima called on parents to assist government to fishing out bad boys who are fomenting trouble and causing them sleepless night .
She added women should be vanguard of transformation and educating their wards to stay away from criminality that is capable of wrecking havoc to the development of our nation .
