Michael Okpara University of Agriculture has denied reports that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta and the Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana have hatched a plot to sack the Igbo staff and replace them with Hausas.
Head, Public Relations/Protocol Unit and Spokesperson, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Adanma Odefa denied reports.
She said, “Be rest assured that there is no conniving between Vice Chancellor Francis Otunta and Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Muhammadu Lawal Zayyana to sack people or make people suffer on the basis of states of origin, sex or whatever.”
Describing the vice chancellor as a renowned scientist, administrator cum educationist extraordinaire and a gentleman per excellence, she added that Otunta had never been found wanting in any given assignment.
Odefa, who maintained that the reports were aimed at maligning them, added, “Otunta plays by the books and detests injustice of any form. He’s a far cry from the monstrous picture some of the media are painting of him.
Similarly, she said Zayyana; a Sokoto Caliphate crown prince had served as acting governor, speaker of House of Assembly and commissioner for many years in Sokoto State with neither blemish nor controversy.
“He is the next in line to the present Sultan. He’s a generous, simple, humane and doesn’t in any way, shape or form fill the profile he has been created of in the wake of the story,” the spokesperson maintained.
