One of the script-writers of the rested popular Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) drama series, The New Masquerade, Ukwu Rocks Emma has carpeted some Nollywood script-writers and producers for incompetence and unprofessionalism.
Emma stated this in an interview with our correspondent after the public presentation of his latest book, entitled Dance Steps of Vengeance in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, calling for the sanitising of the industry.
He said products of such persons have not only been lacking in educating, entertaining and informing the people but have also been full of alien culture at the detriment of the soceital values and norms.
“Our films should be morally-based and should not portray us in bad light. Our films should be of content we could watch together with our children,” said Emma who had served the state in various capacities.
He expressed worry over decline in reading culture among the youths, adding that ” this book is my humble contribution to revive the love for reading which is gradually being eroded by their preference for the Internet.”
Onuigbo, who described reading as an indispensable step toward self development and actualisation, appealed for support from governments and stakeholders for authors to excell in their chosen fields.
In his comments, the book reviewer, the Librarian of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Prof Udo Nwokocha, noted with appreciation the effort of the author, describing the book as a necessary tool for educational development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Johnson Onuigbo associated himself with the efforts of the author, who said he knew early in life where he wanted to go and pursued it with focus and determination.
