Kogi Upgrades 88 Traditional Rulers

Kogi state Government has approved the upgrading of eighty-eight(88) traditional rulers in the state.

The special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Ohere, in Lokoja disclosed that fifteen of them have been upgraded from second class to first class status.

According to the statement, eighteen have been upgraded from third class to second class status, while fifty-five have been graded to third class.

The statement noted that the upgrade of the traditional rulers in the state followed an approval by the State Executive Council.

While urging the upgraded traditional rulers to justify their appointments by living above board, the special adviser said the present Bello administration hold Traditional institutions in high esteem and would continue to accord priority to their welfare.
Alhaji Abubakar Ohere said the appointment is with immediate effect.

In a related development, some concerned citizens of the state have extolled the government for deeming it fit to honour the wish and desire of the people across the state through their various traditional heads, some whose stools have been due for upgrade for decades but were not considered.

The concerned citizen of Kogi state gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the special Adviser to the Governor, on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Lokoja.

A group led by Alhaji Isyaka Omeiza, in a statement, said the decision of Bello is not only laudable but timely as it has given sense of belonging and accommodated the yearning of the people which he described as the highest legacy to the royal fathers.

The group also applauded Alhaji Abubakar Ohere for his thoughtful, zeal and advisory role to the state governor, which translated into this laudable decision.

In his response, Alhaji Ohere thanked the group for appreciating this laudable achievement of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and described the Governor as a leader with strong “political will” to address all manners of injustice in traditional institutions.

He equally commended the State Council of Chiefs for their exemplary leadership quality and urged them to support the Blue print of the present Government.

Alhaji Ohere congratulated all the graded and upgraded traditional rulers in the state and asked them to rule with the fear of God in their heart, to attract peace, love, tranquility and development to their domains.
