‘Kogi Polio Free Since 2009.’

The Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Healthcare Develoment Agency, Dr.Abubakar Yakubu has disclosed that Kogi state has been polio free since 2009.

He revealed this to newsmen when he monitored the activities of the ongoing National Immunisation Plus Days in the state.

Dr.Yakubu who visited parts of Ajaokuta and Lokoja local government areas of the state to see things for himself, said the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency sets aside the immunisation plus days to ensure that children in hard to reach communities get immunisation adding that in addition to the administration of oral polio vaccine, the children are also given penta 3 immunisaton.

The Executive Director  also revealed  that Kogi state has not recorded any case of polio in the last nine years, adding that the agency is doing its best to maintain this zero polio status of the state by ensuring that all immunisation campaigns are treated with utmost sense of urgency and dedication.

He further told Journalists that the ongoing immunisation plus days targets over 900,000 children in hard to reach communities across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Dr.Yakubu commended the staff of the agency and the Development partners for their commitment to eradicate childhood killer diseases from the state.
