The Kogi State government has approved the commencement of the state health insurance scheme for all residents of the state.
The state commissioner of Health Dr. Haruna Saka Audu who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Lokoja, said that the scheme will start with Kogi civil servants.
He said the programme would be implemented in phases, adding that all residents of the state would benefit immensely from the scheme.
Dr Saka said Governor Yahaya Bello is passionate about the health needs of all citizens, stressing that the programme would go a long way in reducing the difficulties associated with accessing Medical care by citizens.
Presenting the workings of the health insurance scheme to the state executive council, the Executive secretary of Kogi state Health Insurance Agency, Dr Adekunle Aledare said the bill establishing the agency was signed into law by Governor Bello in April 2019.
He added that since the signing of the bill into law the agency had continued to work for the full implementation of the scheme in the state.
Dr. Aledare thanked the state governor and the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Haruna Saka Audu for their resilience and support for the establishment of the scheme in the state.
He assured the government and the people of the state that the agency is prepared for the full implementation of the scheme in the state.
