Mrs Ottih
The Imo State Government has ordered the indefinite suspension of a senior editor with the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Mrs Ottih Vivian, who had earlier been queried for reportedly complaining of non-payment of her salaries and that of her colleagues.
Ottih,a lawyer by training, had on May 4 taken to her Facebook wall to post her plea publicly to the state government to pay her colleagues and herself their over three months salaries.
The post, which was addressed to the governor through a Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Nwamkpa Modestus, asked the assistant to;
“Please my brother, help me inform our humble and performing governor that the entire staff of the only electronic media establishment owned by the state Imo Broadcasting Corporation, the famous Orient FM and Television have not received salaries for the month of February, March and April.”
She said the staff of the corporation were efficient in service delivery but were doing so “on empty stomach and starvation.”
The government was said to have prised her identity from Mr Nwampa, which led to a query by her boss, Mrs Osuchukwu S.O, IBC’s Acting Director-General
In the query, Mrs Osuchukwu said Ottih’s referred to Ottih’s Facebook statement as a press conference, which she said had “caused serious embarrassment to Imo State government, thereby ridiculing the government in the eye of the public with the sole aim of sabotaging the government was a press conference”. She therefore directed her to “explain within 24 hours while disciplinary measures should not be for her “for ridiculing and sabotaging the government”. She however answered the query but the government, which considered her behaviour unbecoming of a senior staff, who ought to know the implication of going public with her grievances, ordered her indefinite suspension.
