Igbo Group Advocates Emergency Summit On Security

Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), Abia State chapter has advocated an emergency summit by Umuigbo to examine their future against the backdrop of security challenges in the country.

The president of the chapter, Prof. Uzodinma Nwala, stated this in a keynote address he presented at the inauguration of the chapter in Umuahia, the state capital.

He called for convening of National Conference as a matter of urgency to resolve the question of the future of the Nigerian federation before the 2019 general election.

In the address entitled “Unburdening the past and facing the challenges of today and tomorrow with determination and confidence”, he called for collaboration between the foundation and other Igbo social groups.

He said: “We must put our future first and foremost, we must continue to work for our emancipation from a political arrangement that continues to ruin our unity, progress, survival and development as a people”.

Nwala called on Ndigbo to support South East governors who have taken positions against herdsmen occupation of Igboland and proposal by the Federal Government to acquire land for the purpose in the zone.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman Oboro council of Ndieze, HRM Eze Larry Agwu pointed out that Igbos are in covenant with God as evident in the way, God see them through in many of their afflictions.

He said, “Time has come for Ndigbo to unite and see themselves as a people of same parentage who, accommodates one another and think out ways to develop their homeland”.

He singled out the activities of saboteurs as the major problem weighing the people progress down and counselled them to shun disintegration and work in the best interest of the Igbo nation.

Earlier in a welcome address, the chairman of the chapter, Chief Chinkwe Ndimele, said the foundation ADF is a registered Non-Governmental Organization of Igbo the development of Igboland.

He said the membership include the intelligentsia, elders, clergy, patriotic public figures, women and youth, both at home and abroad, with the main objective of protecting the culture and civilization of Ndigbo.

Reviewing a book titled “The Nigerian January 15, 1966 coup and Biafra: Myths and Realities”, at the occasion, Dr. Chris Okwu recommended the 21-chapters book to every homes in the country.
