‘We Can’t Compel President To Speak On His Health’

It was fire works at the Presidency yesterday as President Buhari’s aides used different forum and medium to reassure Nigerians on the state of his health, which has become the careless subject of his rumored death.

Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaj Lai Mohammed used the occasion of his meeting in Abuja with the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative, PCNEI to restate that the President is hale and hearty while on his 10-vacation in London.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said in an interview with CNCB Africa, that the President was in London for vacation and not in any hospital.

According to Mohammed reports that governors met in Abuja yesterday to send a delegation to visit Buhari in London, is untrue and a fabrication.

He said: “I want to state categorically and emphatically that there is no iota of truth in this. Governors are not in Abuja because there is no need for it. There is no plan to send emissary to London to see the President.

“Again, I want to say that the President is hale and hearty in London where he is observing his 10-day vacation. Let us all shun the negative reports insinuating the President illness and death.

“We implore those behind this outright falsehood to desist. It is because Nigeria exists that they can practice their profession. We implore them to stop overheating the polity”

Supporting him, Adesina told CNBC Africa “The President is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill.

“When he was travelling last week, the statement was put out that he was going on vacation and during the vacation, he would do routine medical check-p and nothing has changed from what we pushed out last week.

“If anybody has fed something else into the rumor mill, that is just what it is-rumor”

He stated that only the President could decide whether to speak on the issue from London.

He said: “The fact that he is a President, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and speak and talk will be infringing on his rights

“The truth is that the President is on vacation and he has given a date on which he will return to work”
