Governor Simon Lalong has approved the appointment of five new judges for the Plateau State judiciary.
The governor would swear-in the new judges on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
A statement signed by Mark Longyen, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, said the appointments followed the recommendation of the judicial officers by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
It added that the appointments, which takes effect immediately are in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) with regards to the appointment of judicial officers.
The new judges are:
High Court: Geoffrey Mwasu Kamyal, Gedaliah Dayen Fwamyon, and Boniface Shalyuun Ngyouu,.
Sharia Court of Appeal: Muhammad mustapha Hassan.
Customary Court of Appeal: Veronica Julcit Dadom.
Meanwhile, Lalong has said his commitment to rebuild the burnt down Jos Main Market remains sacrosanct and has ordered the movement of heavy equipment to site
Lalong said all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the site is cleared to create the enabling environment for work to commence.
Consequently, the State government has approved Sunday, May 19, as date for demolition of compromised sections of the facility.
A statement by state Information and communication commissioner Yakubu Dati said all persons living within 200 metres to the market are to vacate on or before Friday, May 17, by 6.00pm.
Dati Further said vehicular movement will be restricted, and all entry points to the market will be closed, for the safety of members of the public .
