At last the security details of the Kogi state Deputy Governor earlier withdrawn has been restored after raising the alarm over the development.
This was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akor Sylvester and made available to newsmen in Lokoja yesterday.
The Deputy Governor said his security details have been restored in full yesterday night and have since resumed duties.
He commended the Inspector General of Police and the Kogi State Commissioner of Police for their prompt response.
The Deputy Governor enjoined the Police State Command to monitor the subordinate officers they send to sensitive duty posts to guide them against being used for unlawful assignments that could tarnish the image of the police.
He also commended the Press for their courage and professionalism which principally assisted in getting the information out to the public.
The Deputy Governor promised to sustain good working relationship with the Press, stating that the media performs critical roles in the development of the society.
The Kogi Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba had been living in bondage in the last one year since assumption of office over lingering internal crisis government yet to be made public.
The major sin of the embattled Deputy Governor according sources hinges on his uncooperative attitude to promote the good intentions of his boss and governor of the state, Yayaha Bello, in delivering democracy dividends to the people.
Our Correspondent reports that the lingering rifts between the duo, according to findings had resulted in the sidelining of Achuba in active participation in government businesses.
The worse development, further investigation revealed the stoppage of the monthly impress and travelling allowances of the embattled Deputy Governor for upwards of one year now as well as cutting off of potable water and electricity to his office and residence.
The Deputy Governor who hails from Ibaji Local Government Area in the Eastern Senatorial District of Kogi state became Deputy to Governor Bello following the demise of the former governor elect of Kogi state and Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Abubakar Audu in the 2015 governorship election.
It would be recalled that Achuba’s acceptance for the Deputy Governor position was a kind of last resort as the offer, which was zoned to Kogi East that constitutes the most populated axis of the state was rejected by politicians across all political parties in the country.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello, Edward Onoja had at a town hall APC stakeholders meeting at Oyedega, headquarters of Ibaji local government area recently, accused Elder Simon Achuba as an enemy within the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), in the state.
Onoja at the meeting also blamed the Deputy Governor for the failure of the present government in Kogi state to deliver its mandate for the good people of Ibaji Local Government where he comes from.
He revealed that an investigation is ongoing into the alleged undue interference of the Deputy Governor in accepting kickback from the contractor in-charge of the road contract awarded by government in favour of the area.
Onoja told the people to wait with great intrigue on the outcome of the said investigation which he assured shall be made public to know whether Governor Bello is the problem or their son.
The latest on the Deputy Governor’s ordeal was his recent outcry that his life was in grave danger, following the withdrawal of his security details by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Busari Hakeem.
Addressing newsmen at his official residence in Lokoja on Sunday, he lamented that his security details were ordered to report to Government House on the 15 of February for briefing and he has not seen them since then.
He said that he was to travelling home when the ADC to the governor called them for security briefing.
According to the deputy governor, on getting to Government House, the ADC to the governor took them to SARS office to make statement.
” They accused my ADC and Orderly of gun running but they denied the allegation. As am speaking now they are under detention in Government House . I informed the Commissioner of Police on the situation but till now he has refused to take any action.
“Am a member of the All Progressives Congress. I reported my several travails to the national leader of the APC, President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. My impress has been stopped in the last one year and no reason has been given by the Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for the action.
” I live as deputy governor in the house without security, I travelled home without police, my life is in danger,” he lamented.
“In fact I had to send a text to the CP notifying him of the dangers I and family members have been exposed to, so that he will not say he was not aware. I still have the text with me.
He said that his light and water has been caught off by the state government and presently live in darkness.
Achuba therefore called on the Inspector General of Police to call the state Commissioner of Police to order so that his security details can be restore back.
In his reaction, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Busari, confirmed the incident, saying that the Deputy Governor informed him of the withdrawal of his security details.
He said: “He contacted me and I told him I was going to look into it and am working on it to know what to do. I want to contact the ADC to the Governor why the deputy governor’s details were withdrawn. I spoke to the deputy governor I think this morning that I was going to do something about.
“There’s no problem. He requested for two extra policemen prior to the withdrawal of his details. I don’t know if those two were given to him before the withdrawal of his details.
“We post policemen to Government House but I think it’s the ADC to Governor who is the person in charge of security at the Government House. He posts them. There is no problem. We will send two policemen there pending when the issue will be resolved.
