Indications have emerged that the Chief of Staff President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, has tested positive for coronavirus, while the President returned a negative result after been tested, also.
The reasons for his possible contact of the virus is been traced to his March trip to Germany with a delegation of other Nigerian officials for meetings with electricity giant, Siemens AG. He was also in Egypt. Executive Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Prof James Momoh, reportedly accompanied Kyari on the trip to both Germany and Egypt.
Egypt has 327 confirmed cases of Coronavirus with 14 deaths while Germany has 29,056 infections with 123 deaths and Nigeria with 40 cases and one recorded death from coronavirus
Kyari who returned from that Germany and Egypt trip on March 14 did not self- isolate as NCDC directed and attended a meeting on Sunday in Aso rock where he began to cough repeatedly and thereafter surrendered himself for testing. He has now gone into self -isolation for treatment.
In fact, the recent cancellation of the Federal Executive Council meeting is the due to his ill-health displayed at the meeting llast Wednesday meeting attended by President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Ministers
Kyari, who is in his 70s, has a history of medical complications, including diabetes.
Recently, Kyari also travelled to Kogi state with a delegation of presidency staff and Ministers to represent the President at the burial rites for Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello late mother. The delegation also attended the three day Fidau prayers presided over by the Chief Imam of Ebiraland, Alhaji Salihu Abere at the Governor’s residence in Okene on Tuesday, March 16.
In his delegation were the Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Special Duty, George Akume, Minister of State for FCT, Ramatu Tijani, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
