The People Democratic Party members from the Plateau Southern Senatorial district of the state with a predominantly Tarok speaking natives are divided over the choice of a consensus candidate for the 2019 governorship.

In fact disunity is brewing among the clans in Langtang North and South Local Government composed mainly by the Tarok ethnic nationality, with some of the leaders of the party accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of sponsoring candidates to stall the process .

A secret meeting held to produce one out the 12 aspirants vying for the 2019 governorship was deadlocked as none was ready to shift grounds.

“You would recall , the People Democratic Party (PDP)  in 2015 general election embark on wild goose chase of bringing in a Taroh but lost to the former Governor Jonah David Jang who imposed late GNS Pwajok that led to protest votes which brought in the All Progressive Congress, APC , winning the Governorship “, a party elder confided in Thisage.

He reasoned that there was nothing new in such arrangements as the state had witnessed many before such as the arrangement in 2015 in the Plateau Central and Southern Senatorial districts which gave birth to what he called Plateau project produced incumbent Governor Simon Bako Lalong who hailed from Shendam LGA. He won with a landslide victory.

As fever for the governorship race for 2019 spreads across the length and breath of  Plateau, Southern zone leadership of the Peoples Democratic party has disclosed that it has not reach an agreement on  consensus  governorship candidate among the Taroh( Langtang) governorship aspirants to contest  the PDP primaries in the state.

The Vice Chairman of the party Hon Domle V Simon and the state Legal adviser of the party in a joint communique issued to selected newsmen in Jos after the meeting of the Taroh Nation stakeholders in respect of consensus governorship aspirant, said consensus is best made after the aspirants have purchased their forms which will enable concerned  stakeholders to know who among the aspirants is serious in his aspiration.

The statement disclosed that some of the aspirants are unknown to their party’s architectural arrangement as “these aspirants have not even visited their electoral wards, local governments, zones and the state levels of they party as required.”

They alleged in the statement that most of the Taroh Elders in the committee for the selection of governorship aspirant were APC affiliates that are sympathizers of Governor Simon Lalong who is the sole governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress in the state.

” That PDP has no connections whatsoever with APC, and so the members of the APC cannot and should not mediate for the PDP in a case like this ” they stressed.

They resolved that those of them who are members of Peoples Democratic party in Langtang north and South local government councils have distanced themselves from any decision that would be arrived at by “these pro- governor Lalong sympathizers within Tarok Nation.”

It would be recalled that the decision by Tarok Elders committee to support one of the several Tarok governorship aspirants for Plateau 2019 governorship aspiration generated disapproval among the supporters of former FCT Minister Lt General Jeremiah Useni, Senator Victor Lar, Jimmy Cheto, Arch Samuel Jatau and host others wishing to run for governorship in the state.
