Buhari Promises to Sustain Fight On Insecurity As Gov Zulum Appeals for Investment on Education

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday pledged to sustain the fight against banditry in the Northwest and terrorism in the Northeast at a closed- door meeting with the six governors of the North East zone and security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said the security is one of the duties of the federal government and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which made it one of its cardinal promises, was doing its best on tackling insecurity as can be attested to by Nigerians.

Speaking at the meeting on behalf of his counterparts from the Northeast, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state said investment on education and massive employment of citizens in the geo-political zone would keep the youths meaningfully engaged and help to checkmate the increasing appeal of insurgency.

The meeting was also attended by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the National Security Adviser, retired Major General Babagana Monguno, rtd, the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim G1ambari, and governors of the Northeast states led by their Chairman, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state. The others were Governor Ahmadu Fintri of Adamawa state and his Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Gombe counterparts, namely, Bala Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, Darius Ishaku and Mai Mala Buni, respectively.

Other security chief who attended the meeting are Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; and Director General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, were also in attendance.

The Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufa’i; Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi; and Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi, also attended the meeting
