‘Buhari Owes Nigerians Explanations On Health Status’

Ekpo Okemini, Umuahia

President Muhammadu Buhari owes Nigerians detailed explanation and information on his health status, state of the nation’s economy and his plans to move it away from economic recession, an ex-lawmaker has said.

Former member representing Ohafia South Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Mba Ukaha said such explanations would erase doubts in the minds of the people about his capacity to continue in the office and that of the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government to address the challenges.

He expressed worry that the failure of both the president and government’s spokespersons to explain the president’s health status had further worsened the economic situation.

He disagreed with the government that the economic challenges in the country were as a result of alleged mismanagement of the economy by the past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government.

“They are just trying to pass the bulk.  When former president Goodluck Jonathan handed over power to Buhari, petrol sold at N87.00 per liter, a bag of rice was at between N7, 000.00 and N8, 000.00,” he argued.

The former chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties and Electoral Maters said he could go on enumerating areas the government had failed to deliver on its campaign promises.

He said “It is just bad implementation of programmes. And you know as the saying goes, a bad workman always quarrels with his tools. So I am not sure the situation was caused by that government.”

He supported former president Jonathan in his views that the people, having experienced the failure of the APC government, would return the PDP back to power in 2019 if it puts its house in order in good time.

He said: “If you watch what is going on in the country, you will observe that the people are disenchanted with the performance of the government. I am very optimistic that they will not allow it to continue.”
