Benue State: INEC To Reschedule Poll In 3 LGAs, As Gunmen Kidnap 4 Staff.

Few hours to the conclusion of the conduct of the governorship in 29 states and Assembly polls in all the 36, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, i Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State, Mr Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, has announced plans by the Commission to reschedule elections in some polling units in three local governments of the state.

Addressing journalists at about 2:pm on Saturday in Makurdi, the state capital, he said about 5,600 voters have been disenfranchised in the noted areas because armed men attacked INEC ad hoc staff and tried unsuccessfully to snatch ballot papers.

In one instance, “four ad hoc staff along with sensitive materials have been kidnapped in one place and the police have been invited to investigate and secure the release of the staff and materials. In view of Section 27 of the electoral guidelines, INEC would have to reschedule elections in these troubled place.
