Army, Police Join Forces As Operation Puff Adder Is Launched in Plateau

The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau State Command, has reached out to the Special Tasks Force, STF, in a bid to man the security challenges in the crisis-prone state and coordinate the activities of the two security outfits properly.

Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor, said the new synergy with sisters security agencies in the state would assist in flushing out kidnappers, armed robbery syndicates, Sara -suka cultists and other crimes related activities in the state and its environs.

He spoke at the official launching of Operation Puff Adder, held at the Plateau State Police Command, Jos, the state capital. Represented by the Deputy Commissioner, Bature Umar, Agbonlahor said in compliance with the IGPs’ directive, the State Command, launched its special squad of Operation Puff Adder, under direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police to smoke out criminals in their hideout.

 

He said: “The aim of the operation is to tackle crimes affecting Plateau State such as: kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, banditry and other crimes and to also prevent influx of criminal elements to the state considering the ongoing security operations in the neighbouring states like Bauchi, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Taraba,” he said.

CP Agbonlahor, appealed for the support, cooperation, understanding and collaboration of other security and law enforcement agencies in the State as well as members of the public for the continuous success of the operation for the safety and security of the state.

Declaring the event open, Governor Simon Lalong, assured the acting Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, of his administration’s continued support to help the police and army discharg the duties of curbing criminality in Plateau State.

The Governor said the Ag. IG’s innovation of operation Puff Adder, is highly commendable.

Represented by deputy Governor, Sonny Tyoden, Lalong said, that the IG deemed it necessary to innovate the instrument of Operation Puff Adder, to cover Plateau State is commendable.

 

“We shall give you (Police), all the necessary cooperation to succeed,” he assured, and further tasked the men and officers of Operation Puff Adder, to discharge their job seriously, by upholding the confidence reposed on them.

Security personnel have spent years battling with the criminal elements that expanded the multi versatile crises so we look at it critically and review that over the years these elements succeeded in fictionalizing communities along sectarian lines, so we set up the puff order to restore peace and end internal conflict in Nigeria, they explain.

The STF commander, Major General A.C.C Agundo urged the people of Plateau state to imbibe spirit of peaceful co-existence.

He expressed confidence that with the cooperation of all and sundry, the people can go to sleep and their farms “ because we are battle ready to flush out bad eggs.”

“In my few years here we have seen the magnitude of damage done to human lives, properties, but we call on communities leader to stop the unnecessary killings”, he said.
