APC Faults Parallel Congress Held In Some States

.Kogi ask party to punish parallel Congress organisers

From  Joseph Amedu, Lokoja

That All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed and described as ‘so-called’, parallel congresses held in a couple of States.

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary, stated, Monday, that parallel congress was unknown to the party.

He said: “The Party position is that there is no such thing as parallel congress. The only congress recognised by the Party is that conducted in accordance with the Party constitution, which was organised by the congress committee charged by the Party to organise such congress. We therefore regard any so-called parallel congresses as exercise in futility and attempt to cause confusion in the Party.

“We wish to reiterate that any Party member who has any genuine grievances regarding the congresses should channel such through the Appeals Committee in their respective states.”

Meanwhile, Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Mathew Kolawole said that he was not aware of the parallel Congress anywhere in the State.

However, a  faction of the Lokoja LGA All Progressives Congress (APC) members have elected a  new Executive to run the affairs of the party.

Usman Mamanlafia, and Abubakar Nagogo Maiyaki have been  elected as the factional Chairman and Secretary respectively in a twenty seven man executive, that took place at St Luke’s Model Primary School Adankolo.

The faction is alleged to be loyal to the embattled State Chairman of APC, Hady Ametuo

The congress was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and in the presence of men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad.

The newly elected chairman pledged to carry along all segment of the party with a call on those aggrieved to close ranks in the interest of the party.

The Chairman described the enthusiasm of the members to defy the rains in an exercise to strengthen internal democracy, as commendable.

In their separate remarks, some elders of the Local Government Area APC Elders who include: Mr Bosede, Mustapha Allahdey, Ranti Adeagbo, Francis Angulu, and Mrs Toyin Classy, described the elected officials as capable of moving the party forward and urged them to reach out to more members with a view to swelling the ranks of members of the party.

Meanwhile in a statement, the Director- General, Media and Publicity to governor Yahaya Bello, Kingsley Fanwo dismissed rumors of “parallel Congresses in Kogi State, saying that the organizers of such and their sponsors should be expelled from APC.

“You can see the orderly manner in which our party members have elected our executives.  The strength of our party lies in our internal democratic mechanism. We are a law abiding party”.

When asked about reports of parallel Congresses in Lokoja LGA, Fanwo said the people who organized the “the purported parallel Congresses are jesters and politically confused individuals who are out to destroy the party.

“Last week , they issued a press statement that they won’t be taking part in the Congresses, only to wake up the following morning to claim their group already had majority of the Ward executives.

“People do not take them serious anymore. They are mere political jesters who want to destroy the party before moving to other parties they have been sponsoring secretly.

“There was a Stakeholders meeting yesterday where Party faithfuls were addressed by the Congress Committee sent to the state to midwife the process. Those claiming to have done parallel Congress didn’t attend.”
