Late ex- President Shagari. He was buried on Saturday according to Muslim rites
The PDP candidate for Lagos State governorship, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State over the death of Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
Jimi Agbaje said the elder statesman’s demise at this time was painful.
*A mighty tree has fallen in the forest,” Agbaje said in a press statement on Saturday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina.
Describing Shagari as one of the country’s most historical personalities, Agbaje said he would be remembered for being a humble and unassuming politician.
According to the PDP candidate, it was a pity that following the four years that Shagari ruled Nigeria and the aborting of his regime in 1983, the country’s fortunes had been on the downward spiral.
Agbaje said Shagari’s amiable and fraternal relationship with his Vice President, the Late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, was a model that, if replicated nationwide, would bestow Nigeria with its elusive unity.
He prayed that God would give the family, the Sokoto people and the country the fortitude to bear the great loss.
