Again Magu Fails To Close The Market, As NSE Key Indicators Drop By 0.11 Percent.

For the second time, the Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu missed an appointment with the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday where he was expected to address the stockbroking community and also have the privilege of sounding the closing Gong, to officially close the market for the day.

Just as the market was awaiting his arrival, the key market indicators went down by 0.11 percent, thereby halting the six days appreciation the index and market capitalization had enjoyed since the beginning of August 2017, while the year to date return stood at 41.78 percent.

The All Share Index closed at 38,102.85 against the previous close of 38,144.02 while Market Capitalization closed at ₦13.133 trillion against previous close of N13.147 trillion.

Volume traded increased by 10.35 percent from 328.654 million to 362.671 million, while the total value of stock traded decreased by 8.28 percent from N6.102 billion to N5.597 billion in 4,055 deals.

The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 291.779 million shares exchanged for N3.568 billion. Consumer Goods came next with 34.655 million shares traded for N1.748 billion, Conglomerates, Services, Oil And Gas sectors followed in that order on the activity chart.

Access, Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, FCMB Holding Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc were the most active stocks by volume.

Unilever Nigerian Plc, BOC Gases Plc, Conoil Plc, Guinness Nigeria Plc and Wema Bank Plc emerged the highest price gainers, while Forte Oil Plc, Oando Plc, National Salt Company of Nigeria Plc, Morison Industries Plc and Dangote Sugar Plc topped the loser’s table.

In all a total of 98 companies shares were traded with 20 gainers and 27 losers while 51-share price remained unchanged at the close of business on Thursday.
