Seven months spell without a club after leaving Crystal Palace, Emmanuel Adebayor scored a hat trick as Istanbul Basaksehir thrashed city rivals Galatasaray in the Super Lig.
In a game that saw Galatasaray with 56 per cent possession to Basaksehir 44 percent, the ex-Arsenal and Tottenham striker scored twice before the break and headed in a third on 57 minutes, with Mustafa Pektemek adding a fourth. For a player who had to be offloaded by Manchester City over poor performance following a bitter family quarrel and then alack luster performance at Crystal Palace, to almost consigned him to the black book of bookmakers as jinxed, his decision to restore his form by leaving the EPL arena for a change has paid off. Since arriving at his new club, Adebayo has been a motivation and source of inspiration to his team.
Adebayor’s last hat trick came for Real Madrid in 2011, while the 33-year-old now has five goals since joining Basaksehir as a free agent in January.
His side is five points behind leaders Besiktas with seven games remaining.
