An Umuahia-based civil rights activist, Barrister Emerson Azubike has warned that the country is drifting towards anarchy, saying unfortunately the Federal Government seems incapable of handling the challenge.
Azubuike spoke to our correspondent following the escalating incidence of farmers/herders clashes across the country in his chambers in Umuahia, the Abia state capital
He said the challenge which has left scores of people either wounded or dead and loss of property was happening as if the government care less for the security of the nation and its future.
“Everyday we hear of herders unleashing mayhem on defenceless communities in the Middle Belt, while the government is pretending is if it were animals that were slaughtered,” he lamented.
The legal practitioner said rather than address the challenge, the leaders are concerned about how to either retain or be elected into office in the 2019 general election by whatever means.
According to him, going by what Nigerians have passed through in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, the party does not deserve even a single vote in the election.
“But this is one country where anything can happen in the name of election due to religious, ethnic and tribal sentiments. Until we learn to do away with these issues, we are heading nowhere” he argued.
Coming back home, he said the present administration in the state need not be returned to office in the election ” because it failed to deliver on its campaign promises despite its huge resources.”
He blamed the failure of successive administrations in state to deliver on god fatherism which he said had permeated every facet of the society to the disadvantage of the generality of the people.
Azubuike, who said he has sympathy for the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), called on the people to rise up to the occasion by ensuring that their votes must always count.
